Our live rock comes from the best collectors around
the world. Embedded with all the beneficial microorganisms straight
from the ocean, our live rock is just that - rock, not rubble.
It is cleaned at the source to remove most unwanted life forms,
packed moist into boxes, covered, and shipped fresh three times
a week. Please keep in mind that anytime rock is shipped there
will be some die-off, so before it goes into an aquarium it should
be inspected and washed in saltwater.
After adding live rock, monitor your water quality. Do not leave
lights on too long (6 to 8 hours is plenty); and start adding
calcium,
strontium & molybdenum, and iodine immediately.
We recommend 1½ to 2 pounds of live rock per gallon for reef aquariums.
It is usually best to add only half of the live rock at a time,
waiting about a week in between, while monitoring your water.
A properly sized protein skimmer is a must. When adding live rock
to an established aquarium, caution should always be used to prevent
harm to existing livestock: It is recommended that an ammonia
neutralizer, such as Kent Marine's
Ammonia
Detox, be used to combat the effects of any further die-off
that may occur.
