HOW TO FEED YOUR HORSE with a healthier product. It is important to realize that expelled soybean meal and oil are NOT the same as solvent extracted meal and oil.

Soy-Co L.L.C. uses the extrusion/expulsion process to mechanically press out the oil that is used in our products. Horse health and nutrition is greatly enhanced with our quality soybean meal and oil. Traditional soybean meal and oil is rendered less valuable in nutrients due to the chemical solvent extraction method used.

No chemical of any kind is used to extract the oil from the soybean The solvent used is generally hexane, which is an octane gasoline.
Mechanical extraction needs no bleaching or deodorizing since the soybeans never have contact with a solvent. Residual hexane remains in the oil and meal after evaporation.
Pressed oils have tested alpha tocopherols (Vitamin E) at 198% higher than solvent extracted. The oil and meal must be bleached or deodorized to be food grade ready.
The natural Vitamin E present results in a long shelf life. The process of removing the gasoline removes natural antioxidants that are destroyed in the process.
The natural lecithin present has been demonstrating healing solutions for skin and liver disease. The process of removing the gasoline also destroys Vitamin E, resulting in a short shelf life.
All natural compounds of the soybean are enhanced, not destroyed, allowing for complete utilization of nutrients. Vitamin E must be added back to the oil and meal that is usually done chemically.

THE PROCESS

EXTRUSION:
The extrusion method generates heat through friction to cook, sterilize, stabilize and texturize the soybeans. Expansion through cooking is necessary for its effect on the protein of the ration where it acts to detoxify or denature the anti-nutritional factors of raw soybeans.

EXPULSION:
The expulsion method utilizes intense pressure to separate the oil from the soybean meal. This is a mechanical process, using no chemicals or additives to extract the oil. Thus, all the natural properties of the soybean are passed on through our products and to the consumer.

Expelled oil never comes into contact with a solvent. Since there is no need for "washing", the oil is darker in color, which is caused by natural lecithin, Vitamin E, tocopherols, and all other antioxidants natural soybeans carry. The shelf life and stability of the products are enhanced when oil cells are ruptured, resulting in a release of natural tocopherols. These tocopherols act as antioxidants that help retain the quality of the soybean. Protein percentages of the meal are generally higher, improving feed quality.

In general, studies have shown a marked improvement in gain and efficiency for animals on high concentrate rations and improved rations for young animals. The expulsion process denatures enzyme inhibitors, allowing for natural enzyme breakdown and utilization of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. It does not destroy the natural compounds, which become more available to the animal and higher in density.
