The Joly Natural Color Process Photographs are made with several cameras including a hand built balsa wood tri-focal camera 5.75 inches wide, 6.5 inches high and 14 inches long. The 4x5 inch negative holder can be placed in any of three positions, either 3 inches deep for a wide angle, 6 inches deep for a normal angle. or 12 inches deep for a telephoto view. Each negative position or focal length has its own precisely drilled pinhole optic with the following aperture sizes: .014" diameter (f/214) for wide angle, .020" diameter (f/300) for normal, and .028" diameter (f/428) for telephoto.

The camera has an external manual sliding shutter, viewing devices over each focal length for composing the picture parameters, a tripod socket and an internal filter holder. The camera is decorated with a modeled plastic aluminum band around the camera body and has a moonstone inset in the shutter.
