Gary Cochran, the author of Harm's Way served three years in the United States Marine Corps as the commander of a surface-to-air missile platoon. Prior to his assignment to Viet Nam, Gary had to personally shoot down an unmanned aircraft as part of his training. Subsequently, he realized how easy it would be to steal some of these shoulder-fired stinger missiles.
