BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP:
Subscription to the Lupus Beacon: The Lupus Beacon, which is printed approximately every other month, has articles on subjects which are important to lupus patients. Before being sent to members, a medical advisory board reviews the newsletter for medical accuracy. Some of the subjects which have been covered include what you should do if your treatment plan isn't working, how you can enhance your chances of getting well, the nutritional needs of patients on prednisone, using autoantibody tests to measure disease activity and to predict the expected severity of the disease and the organ systems more likely to be involved, and more.
Emotional and educational support: Staff members are lupus patients who understand your problems and will answer members questions about lupus.
Free prescription drug information: Patient Medication Instruction Sheets are sent free to members who request them by sending the names of the prescription drugs they are taking and a self-addressed stamped envelope. The P.M.I.'s explain why a particular drug is used, what to tell your doctor before using the drug, instructions on how to take the drug, precautions while using the drug, side effects to report to the doctor, and side effects that do not require medical attention.
Directory of Competent, Caring Doctors: For the last fourteen years the L.E. Support Club has been compiling a directory of competent, caring doctors. To be including on the list, a doctor has to meet criteria set down by our organization and be recommended by one of our members. The names and addresses of the closest doctors are sent to our members who request them.
