A resident silversmith of Wickenburg, Arizona fashioned the first neckpiece inspired by the Bola in 1949. It was constructed from leather lacings with an adjustable silver slide adorned with turquoise. The ends were decorated with silver balls thus the first Bola Tie. With many variations, it has become popular in the Southwest and throughout the United States, often worn instead of the traditional tie.
