The way the story goes, in 1840 a
London Baker and confectioner, visited Paris on a holiday and saw Bon Bons wrapped in
paper with a twisted end. Upon his return to England, he wrapped his candy in colored
paper and added mottos for luck.
Even though they sold very well, he was
still not satisfied. One day he was standing by his fireplace when a log blazed up with
quite a crackle from which he then developed the "snap" as we now know it today.
He then put all these things together-
he rolled the colored paper, enclosed a novelty, a motto, a hat and a snap and the
tradition of the cracker was born.
Today, the tradition of having crackers
At each place setting for all parties, with family and friends snapping the crackers,
donning the hats, reading the mottos and comparing the novelty trinkets before dinner,
puts everyone in a jolly mood.
