THE AUTHOR
Amber Jo Illsley was raised in Golden Bay, in the Tasman District, northern South Island of New Zealand. Writing has always been a part of her life, even from pre-school days. She has travelled widely in her own country and overseas as part of her work as a freelance writer and photographer - mainly in rural work. A lover of animals, one animal or more generally plays a role in her stories.
She now lives in Christchurch, on the East Coast of the South Island, and is still a keen traveller.
THE BOOK
Thirty short stories in three parts, many of the stories true or based on fact, cover macabre, humorous, philosophical, thought-provoking and tender subjects. Settings are in Switzerland, England, Australia and New Zealand. 'The Singing Tree' explores the mind and reasoning of a mentally-disturbed and extremely dangerous youth, and at the opposite and best end of the range of human emotions is, for example, 'Talking Funny'. This story gently tells of the 'electronic' generation gap between a loving grandfather and his grandson, and other stories are for the romantically inclined and/or those with a keen sense of the ridiculous.
