Her home was cast in total darkness and she stood there in the middle of the upper class home shaking. Everything she'd taken as fact, as reality was in question. She suddenly wondered if her sanity would break. If this was all it would take, some mistake seen across the street during a storm that would send her into a screaming madness. Was it possible her eyes had mistaken something ordinary for the unrealistic? Perhaps Mrs. Ryan had put candles in the window, glowing brightly side by side and the mistake was in the illusion of light that they cast.

With a trembling hand, Becca pushed back the blinds,. Thunder roared forcing her heart to jump and her hand to let go. Again she used her mind as a vice for strength and tried to look out into the stormy night. Rain drove fiercely to the ground and what had seemed so lovely before, scared her, The beauty she'd admired now looked horribly savage and cruel. The light show had become blows in her mind, the thunder the screams she wished she could utter.

Something terrible was brewing out there and her gut knew that this night wouldn't end sweetly with warm covers and dreams while her dog slept on the floor next to the bed. She pushed the thought out of her mind hoping to stifle the panic that built in her.

She shut her eyes and reopened them to the night. For a moment, she thought she saw something. It looked like a large bird or bat flying blindly trough the storm. She tried to focus on it and realized that it was flying directly at her.
