DEDICATION
To the memory of
Moira, the nearest to an Angel that a Woman could be.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
My heart-felt thanks go to my loving wife, Elba, whose unflagging support and innumerable cups of tea at all hours of the day or night enabled me to realize my long-cherished dream of writing these memoirs.
THE AUTHOR
Lewis Forbes is a graduate of Glasgow Veterinary College, Scotland, and in 1956, he was awarded the Diploma of Tropical Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Dick Veterinary College, Edinburgh, Scotland, and in 1959, received a Fellowship in Animal Industry from the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations. He joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1962, serving as a Foreign Animal Diseases Diagnostician and Field Veterinarian until 1984. His family of five children all live and work in California and his main hobbies are Arabian horses, skiing and golfing with his wife, Elba, tournament chess, and playing the piano and harmonica.
Praise from critics includes-
"Fascinating glimpse of a bygone era.” "Armchair travelers will love it." "'Wow! I can see it', of many scenes.” "What an exciting life!" "Reminds one of James Herriot." "Fun for any golfer."
THE BOOK
The odyssey is based on the more than one hundred letters the author wrote to his mother and father in Scotland while he was serving as a war-time veterinarian in the N.W. Frontier of India and the jungles of Burma, Cambodia and Vietnam.
The odyssey continues to Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania in East Africa until 1962, when the author went to the United States, Canada and Mexico for another twenty exciting years with his devoted Scottish bride, Moira, and a family of five wonderful children.
