Dead By Now, By Donald R. Williams

Foreword to Dead By Now

by Julian Whitaker, M.D.

Julian Whitaker, M.D. runs the Whitaker Wellness Institute in Newport Beach, California, and is the editor of Health & Healing, one of the most popular newsletters in the country. Trained as a surgeon at the University of California, Dr. Whitaker turned away from surgery to practice preventive medicine using nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes as the primary tools for treating disease.

Don Williams is a special person. He does what all aspire to do -- he thinks for himself. Don had a severe heart problem and was faced with frightening alternatives. He was told by white-coated authority figures that without bypass surgery he would surely die.

Bypass surgery, angioplasty, and even the diagnostic angiogram are so over used that, in my opinion, it constitutes criminal behavior by the cardiologists and surgeons involved. Well-controlled scientific studies have shown that bypass surgery simply doesn't work, except to relieve severe chest pain. Those who have the surgery didn't even have a trend of longevity benefit compared to those treated without it. Yet, each year hundreds of thousands cave into the obvious fear tactics used by aggressive heart doctors and submit to the bypass operation. Don investigated other avenues and took one.

I think he gives me too much credit for his recovery, because it was his recovery. I am not set up to "cure" anyone. I simply try to educate my patients on how to live in a way that facilitates the healing throughout the body. Don did that and experienced that.

His story is an inspiration and hopefully will help others to stand on their own two feet to seek a safer, more natural healing for heart disease than is currently advocated by so called heart specialists.

Julian M. Whitaker, M.D.
